Black Mountain Quantitative designs and operates the systems that keep digital asset markets continuous, efficient, and resilient.

We provide liquidity on cryptocurrency markets and directly to our counterparties. Our work sits at the intersection of probability theory, systems engineering, and market structure.

What defines us

Rigorous research

We build models from first principles and validate them against real market data. Every hypothesis is tested before it touches a live system.

Engineered systems

We own the full stack: stochastic models, software, hardware, and networking. That end-to-end control is how we keep systems fast, reliable, and observable.

Disciplined risk

Risk is not a checkpoint. It is the first constraint on every design, every position, and every decision we make.

Market integrity

We provide liquidity because well-functioning markets benefit participants. We build for stability, transparency, and long-term health.

The work

One problem, four disciplines.

Market making is a single problem that cannot be solved by any one specialty. Research, engineering, trading, and operations sit together and share the same objective: quote continuously, price accurately, and manage risk without exception.

Research

Researchers study market microstructure, build statistical models of price formation, and design the signals and hedging policies that drive our quoting. Backgrounds span mathematics, statistics, physics, and computer science.

Engineering

Engineers own the trading platform end to end: matching-engine connectivity, deterministic execution paths, telemetry, simulation, and the deployment tooling that lets a change move from idea to production safely.

Trading

Traders operate the systems in live markets, manage inventory and exposure across venues, and translate what happens on the desk back into research and engineering priorities.

Operations

Operations, finance, and counterparty teams keep settlement, treasury, compliance, and relationships running with the same precision we expect from our trading systems.

How we work

Culture is the set of decisions we make when nobody is watching.

We argue about ideas, not status

The strongest argument wins, regardless of who makes it. New hires are expected to question the way things are done in their first week, and they usually do.

We build rather than buy

Understanding a system completely is worth more than adopting one quickly. Owning our stack means we can reason about behavior under stress instead of guessing.

We measure everything

Intuition starts the conversation; data ends it. Every model, every latency budget, and every trading decision leaves a record we can review.

We stay small on purpose

Small teams with real ownership move faster and make better decisions. Individual scope grows quickly here because there is nowhere for work to hide.

Our history

Built one system at a time.

Founding

The firm was founded by researchers and engineers who wanted to apply the discipline of institutional market making to digital assets, on infrastructure they controlled themselves.

First systems

The first production quoting engine went live on a single venue, built around deterministic execution and a risk model written before a single order was sent.

Expansion

Coverage broadened across centralized venues and into bilateral counterparty flow, with a shared research platform behind every market we quote.

Today

We operate continuously across global crypto markets from Dallas, providing two-sided liquidity on exchange and directly to institutional counterparties.

Small teams, deep expertise.

Researchers, engineers, and traders work side by side. We hire for depth, autonomy, and intellectual honesty, then give people the space to make an outsized impact.
